Ordering & delivery
- How do I order from Moondance?
- There is no online checkout. You message Anita on WhatsApp, tell her what you would like, and she confirms the order and payment details. It keeps prices down and means you can ask questions before you buy.
- Do you deliver in Cape Town?
- Yes. Free local delivery on orders over R300 across Blouberg Sands, Bloubergstrand, Big Bay, Table View, Milnerton and Melkbosstrand. Nationwide courier delivery is available everywhere else in South Africa.
- Can I collect my order instead of paying for delivery?
- Yes. Click & Collect is available from the Blouberg Sands studio. Message Anita on WhatsApp to arrange a collection time.
- What payment methods do you accept?
- EFT, instant payment and cash. Anita will send payment details on WhatsApp once your order is confirmed.
- How much is delivery if my order is under R300?
- Local delivery under R300 carries a small fee that depends on your suburb. Message Anita for a quote, or collect from the studio at no cost.
Skin & suitability
- Which soap is best for eczema or very sensitive skin?
- Goat's Milk & Honey Soap is the most requested bar for eczema-prone and easily irritated skin. Goat milk is naturally rich in lactic acid, which gently exfoliates and helps maintain the skin's pH balance, while raw honey draws moisture in. The Healing Skin Bar, made with calendula and lavender, is the other common choice. Neither is a medical treatment — if a skin condition is being managed by a doctor, check with them first.
- Is handmade soap better for dry skin than supermarket soap?
- Cold-processed soap retains the glycerin produced during saponification, which is a natural humectant. Most commercial bars have that glycerin removed and sold separately, and use synthetic detergents instead. That difference is why handmade soap usually feels less stripping on dry skin.
- Are your soaps suitable for babies and children?
- The gentler unscented and mild bars — Oatmeal Soap and Tallow Boerseep Unscented — are the ones most parents choose. Because everyone reacts differently, message Anita to talk through your child's skin before ordering.
- Do you use palm oil?
- No. Every Moondance bar is palm-oil-free. The base oils are olive oil, coconut oil and shea butter.
- Are the soaps vegan?
- Most are, but not all. The Goat's Milk & Honey Soap contains goat milk and raw honey, and the Tallow Boerseep range is made with grass-fed beef tallow. Everything else in the soap range is plant-based.
The products themselves
- How is cold-process soap made?
- Oils and butters are combined with a lye solution at low temperature, poured into moulds, and left to saponify. The bars are then cured for six weeks so excess water evaporates. The low temperature preserves the beneficial properties of ingredients like goat milk that would be destroyed by heat.
- How long does a bar last?
- Longer than commercial soap, because curing produces a harder bar. The biggest factor is drainage — a bar left sitting in water will dissolve quickly regardless of how it was made. Use a draining soap dish and let it dry between uses.
- Do shampoo bars actually work?
- Yes, though most people need about a week for their scalp to adjust after switching from bottled shampoo. Our shampoo bars contain no synthetic detergent, so they do not lather as aggressively — that is expected, not a fault.
- What is boerseep?
- Traditional South African soap made with beef tallow. Ours uses grass-fed tallow and produces a hard, long-lasting, very mild bar. It is available unscented or with lemon.
- How long do the products keep?
- Soap bars improve with age and keep well for years if stored somewhere dry. Body butters and lip balm are best used within about twelve months, since they contain no synthetic preservatives.
